People Get Younger
I’ve noticed that in AARP, the magazine of the American Association of Retired People, the age bracket for those up-in-years gets younger. (Incidentally, AARP claims to be the largest circulation magazine.) It is now featuring those in their early 50s. A recent article “Great Looks” (April, ‘08) highlights 10 attractive people, of both sexes. Four of them are in their 50s. The magazine seems to be aiming more and more at these 50 plusses. If I were 50, being included would make me cringe.
I wonder how far AARP will go? Will it shortly be featuring quadragenarians (40 to 49), or tricenarians (30 to 39), or vicenarians (20 to 29), or even denarians (10 to 19)? If AARP continues the trend, then it would definitely be drawing more readers and earning its laurels as the “World’s Largest Circulation Magazine.”
