Supreme singing

We were watching a Metropolitan Opera performance of Madama Butterly Wednesday, June 24, on TV. Patricia Racette, an American singer, and Marcello Giordani, Italian-born, were the  leads. The beauty and quality of the female lead especially,   the range and  control of  body as she knelt, sang and gestured, performing in different positions,  struck me speechless. Not to mention the most difficult task of opera singers, to sing (often to sing lyrics of a foreign tongue. whose words the singer has to learn, pronounce and deliver with proper emphasis.  It was an indescribably beautiful experience to hear and watch Madama Butterfly.

I hesitate to say this for fear of offense. Such a peformance puts play acting in the back row. Hearing an  actor on stage pales in comparison.
